Inspired by the client’s taste for luxury and world travel; one of the key elements of this project was to design understated luxury living and serene comfort within this penthouse; blending the elegance of eclectic world culture and New York City lifestyle. The color palette is primarily soft neutral tones set off by dark wood flooring and furniture contrasting white leathers, pattern wall coverings, and sheer draperies. Mood lighting on the ceiling makes an understated atmosphere for relaxing evenings.

The art of easy-living blends with classic sophistication; a former New York City lifestyle influences a new suburban living.  The beautiful retreat like setting of this Short Hills home was designed for a young professional couple transitioning from Manhattan to a new suburban lifestyle.  With young children about, special consideration was given to the use of practical materials. However, it was equally important to keep the space airy,  uncluttered and to realize a modern yet inviting home centered on a cool neutral palette with a hint of accent color in each room. The goal for the project was to create fun and practical spaces for the family’s young children while executing inviting and sophisticated rooms for relaxing and entertaining.   Large sun room windows, overlooking the backyard, produce abundant natural light; the soft palette of the fabrics and restrained splashes of  color anchor the overall space.

The client desired to bring her childhood memories back from her native country, Japan. The Zen-like spirit of the interior space brings a serene modern yet timeless appearance.

Satomi’s design for the family room focused on the client’s wish for a comfortable living area and a chic atmosphere for entertaining. Blending the basic elements of Feng Shui and green-forward materials with earthy botanicals and a color palette, she envisioned the best of both worlds—the modern Far East living in the New Jersey countryside.

With sliding doors inspired by Shoji screens and lighting fixtures that pay homage to traditional Japanese lanterns, a modern Japanese aesthetic is comfortably at home in the New Jersey countryside. A commitment to green design was key to the design and selection of materials, including sustainable woods and the custom-designed staircase with natural grasses embedded in recycled acrylic resin panels.

An ambient modern fireplace and intimate seating arrangement temper the expansiveness of this great room. Oversized sofa cushions, unique lighting, and subtle hues keep this space both cozy and stylish. Custom pleated shear draperies mimic the look of a waterfall.
