Cultivating Sensibility in Interior Design: A Path to Enriching Lives
On September 26, 2024, Satomi enjoyed engaging with FC Imabari High School students through lectures and hands-on workshops on interior design.
The session began with an overview of her journey as an interior designer, aimed at inspiring students to explore their paths in the field. She emphasized the importance of sensitivity in design and how well-crafted spaces can enhance well-being, prompting discussions about the impact of different environments.
In the workshop, we concentrated on an actual project based on an interior design assignment from New Jersey. Students collaborated in groups to tackle specific design restrictions and client requirements instead of abstract concepts, allowing them to navigate real-world challenges. She guided their problem-solving processes, encouraging creative solutions within established parameters.
The workshop concluded with group presentations of their design proposals, showcasing their innovative responses to client needs. The students’ energy and enthusiasm reinforced her commitment to mentoring the next generation of designers, leaving her excited about their potential in interior design and architecture.
