Meet Satomi Yoshida-Katz, Founder and Principal Interior Designer

Satomi Yoshida-Katz is renowned for her refined and culturally diverse design approach, blending global influences with a timeless aesthetic. Her boutique design studio has completed projects across the world, from Australia to Italy, Japan, and throughout the United States, designing stylish hotels, resorts, restaurants, corporate offices, and private residences. Satomi’s work is driven by curiosity and enriched by her deep exposure to people, fashion, music, and cultural experiences, which manifest in every design she creates.

Dedicated to bringing her clients’ vision to life, Satomi works closely with them at every stage of the design process, ensuring that each project reflects their unique identity and values. Her designs are sophisticated, inspiring, and always rooted in a respect for the environment, wellness, and sustainability. Satomi is committed to creating spaces that enhance quality of life, embracing biophilic principles to infuse natural elements into her work. Her efforts in sustainable design have been featured in exhibitions and leading publications worldwide, particularly in the U.S., Italy, and Japan.

Recognition

Since 2014, Satomi has received the " Best of Houzz" Design and Service awards for 12 consecutive years. In 2023, she published her first book in Japan, "Interiors for Life: Engaging and Retaining Clients Through Participatory Design," through Shinchosha, Inc.

Satomi’s talent extends beyond interior design. Her work on home and office accessories for a design-driven manufacturer has seen products sold in renowned institutions like MOMA and the Guggenheim, as well as contemporary interior shops across the globe.

Education

Satomi holds a bachelor’s degree in interior design from Iowa State University (FIDER accredited). She is an allied member of the American Society of Interior Designers (ASID), the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC), the Industrial Designers Society of America (IDSA), and the Color Marketing Group, the premier international association for color design professionals.

Satomi's expertise, innovative vision, and global influence have been prominently acknowledged through extensive media features and professional engagements.  She has been highlighted in esteemed publications and media outlets in Japan, the USA, and internationally. Her national media appearances include Kansai TV’s acclaimed documentary series "7 Rules" and a business-focused piece on Nikkei-CNBC.  Her work has also been presented in distinguished publications, such as a five-part "Discover Human" column series for "Nikkei Shinbun" and a cover story for "Asahi Shinbun" Be Saturday’s "Front Runner."   Furthermore, Satomi was recognized as one of the *Featured Designers* in *Florida Design Magazine*, a leading authority in luxury interior design, and her contributions have been celebrated in prominent business and design publications across Japan and the United States.

In addition to her media presence, Satomi has leveraged her expertise to educate and inspire others through impactful lecture series and educational seminars with over 50 lectures.  She has worked with high schools, universities, well-established general contractors, leading interior furnishings retailers and companies, and Japan’s Architecture, Interior Styling, and Interior Decoration Association, reinforcing her status as a thought leader within the interior design industry.
