The client, a bachelor who has lived in several states, purchased a split-level home in suburban New Jersey. He chose the house because it reminded him of the mountain resort where he feels truly relaxed, yet he can still enjoy a panoramic view of the New York City from his living room. The goal was to bring this 1980’s home into the 21st century while maintaining the original structure; to evoke a comfortable and casual country resort feeling, and to showcase his collection of the fine art that he collected during years of travel to other countries. In addition, Satomi wanted to create an energy flow throughout the space and to create harmony between the home’s exterior landscape (suburban oasis) and the interior spaces.
